Powertrain

The Atlas no longer offers a V6, while its 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder gains 34 horsepower and 15 pound-feet of torque. Volkswagen claims the new engine makes the refreshed Atlas quicker than the previous V6 version, and the fuel mileage is better than the old 2.0 turbo, especially on the highway cycle.

Convenience

Satellite radio, voice control, adaptive headlights, rear air-conditioning with separate temperature, ventilated front seats, and a heated steering wheel are now standard. Side window shades for the second row are no longer standard on SE.

Adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning with lane keeping are also now standard.

Keyless touch sensors are now standard on all five doors, instead of just the front doors and liftgate.

Design

An illuminated light bar and "VW" logo are optional, lighting up the front end.

Chassis

Ground clearance is reduced significantly, now only 6.3 inches.

Peak Edition

The world of cross-overs is getting crowded with more outdoorsy models: Subaru's Wilderness, Nissan's Rock Creek, Hyundai's XRT, Honda's TrailSport, Kia's X-Line… and now, the Atlas Peak Edition.

Unlike many of the others, the Peak Edition doesn't pack any additional ground clearance or other improvements for off-roading. It does include all-terrain tires on 18-inch black wheels. Other unique features include a unique fascia, silver side cladding. "Peak Edition" badges are sprinkled liberally.
